Gentlemen;
I recently purchased an old 16" drill press on Ebay. This is a bench model made by Champion Blower & Forge Co. out of Lancaster, PA. It's kinda big and heavy for a bench press, weighing in at over 100 lbs. I think this is a baby that never grew into a floor model! It looks complete, and smells like it came out of a barn...
Champion was an old US Company that made blacksmith equipment (blowers & forges), eventually branching out into other shop tools. Their post hand drills are well known and sought after.
The good news is that it runs! It also has some other nice features; a tilting table, a t-slot base, 5-step pulley, and a 1/3 h.p. Kingston-Conley (K-C) motor. For those of you who don't know, Kingston-Conley built motors for various companies, including Atlas.
Normally you don't see any wood on a big hunk of cast iron, but the quill handle has three wooden knobs on the ends...
And finally, no vintage drill press would be complete without the 'Arc-of-Shame'...
There is limited information about Champion Blower & Forge on the Web; if anyone can help me date this machine, I would be grateful...
I will be posting restoration pics in the vintage machinery section...just thought you might like to see it...enjoy!
