I am working on a jet 1340A lathe. Every time I try to cut a thread the pitch over time becomes out of the lead of the thread. I have checked and replaced the shear pin at the quick change gear box, inspected the keys that feed into the quick change gear box. Where can the movement be coming into the lead screw that the machine losses its lead timing?

Have you checked the gearing on the left side of the head to make sure there isn't any slippage there? I don't remember there being anything inside the gear box that could cause that.You should also check the thread dial and half nuts. I have has problems with them too.
