If it was $1000 less I would consider it.

I have (4) lathes fresh from a local school. They ordered the wrong voltage and instead of getting transformers for each machine they made the decision to upgrade to a beefier lathe all together. These have very few hours on them. Many of the tools are still covered in the original grease. All have Acu-Rite DRO's which is a $2k upgrade. Come pick yours out today. We can load no problem. These also have a ring that attaches to the bed so they can be picked from above. Like New.

(2) Have 5C Collet Closers $7950
(2) Do not have 5C Collet Closers $6950

That ring thing makes me shudder- no way can that single point be a good method of lifting, not to mention scarring the ways-
What is up with that?
Maybe they all have bent beds that's why they are for sale?
Why would 220 v single phase be a problem for any school?

It seems that I have seen lathes lifted by that means before. If the eye bolt assembly is tightened down so there is no chance of scratching the ways I would think it would be ok. As far as bending, I don't think that would be an issue, would it? It would take a crap ton of force to bend a cast iron piece like that. Would it break before it bent?
As you mentioned, the voltage should not be an issue but who knows. Maybe they wanted 3 phase and don't want to switch everything out. The weird thing is that they have already been running, so why unhook them and sell them...

Look like nice lathes though.

Most factory lifting instructions I've seen show two point support so it seems odd to see a single point lift for a heavy precision machine

I decided to look at the Jet manual, just for my curiosity. They not only show it being lifted this way but part of the standard equipment with this lathe is the lifting hook.
