Has anybody got one of these lathes? I see a lot about 1236 PS and 1236 P lathes, but nothing on the 1240 PY. This is a belt drive with a full cabinet under the lathe and looks to have a builtin coolant system in the cabinet. I purchased this on eBay and have yet to pick it up. Lathe was built in 1985. thanks for any information that you might share

I have the Jet 1024 PY, although do not have a cabinet etc. Just a little brother of the one you got if not mistaken.
Nice lathe If you find any backing plates for it please let me know I need to find some.

you'll have years of productive service ahead with the jet lathe.
i own 2 1236 shenwai lathes that are cousins to the jet1236
you may be able to find some parts through jet, but don't count on it

if you email me, i can send copy of the manual for the jet1236py

I just picked up a 1240 as well. Currently in the process of a new paint job and much needed TLC. If you have any advice on where to find a manual and parts I would be in your debt.

Jet is still in business. Google their email address and send them a message. They were kind enough to send me a manual for my 24x120 lathe that was built in 1981 when I reached out to them last year.

Recently I picked up a "Repco" lathe which was a rebranded WeyII Corp lathe of the same age, built 1985.

Since I've had the Repco I've learnt a bit about these lathes, there are two different feed boxes, one can thread 9 1/2tpi and the other threads 11 1/2 tpi
My Repco can have either a 52mm-8tpi or 3mm pitch or a 60mm-8tpi or 3mm pitch spindle nose, another option was D1-4.

I read a post which explained some differences between the P and the PY, he said they were made in two different factories and the PY was a better lathe but the one downside of the PY was the leadscrews were 8pitch which made them a fraction machine, 1/8" travel for 1 turn of the handle, the P series was a 10pitch so 0.100" travel per rev of the handwheels

I've attached a threading chart for the 9 1/2 tpi threading box which has, metric, diametrical and module threading

The sight glasses on your lathe are empty. Have you read the manual and filled the cellars for the oil?

Those are very good little lathes.
