Hi I have a [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] hp v belt drive Bridgeport J head. It works well, however, when I try to use the quill power feed, or engage the drive and use the handwheel to mill down, it starts driving the quill down, but if there’s more than a little resistance, it seems to skip or stop driving like there’s a worn gear there somewhere. Is there some type of adjustment for this, or do I have to replace a worn gear or something?

There is a spring loaded clutch that prevents overloading of the feed gear train, it is a serrated fairly fine toothed affair that is easy to overcome and wears easily then slips all the more easily. So far as I recall, there is no adjustment, replacement of parts maybe necessary, unless recutting of the teeth might be possible.

I took apart the clutch mechanism, and found no wear, but just a loose grub screw on the collar that puts tension on the clutch spring. Apparently the screw loosened up, and thus the collar relaxed the spring tension, and the clutch slipped. The problem is solved!!
