It's old, I have it - What is it?

Along with my Monkey Wards 10 inch Logan was a box of "stuff", including this instrument. It took some effort to disassemble and clean it to make it work smoothly (I suspect the solidified grease in its crevices may have been in there for the past seventy years) but now that I have it in serviceable conditon I have no idea how to use it except perhaps as a V block.
Any one have an idea where I'd go to research this?
