This is the cheapest model ( 513-404-10 ) . The serial number as indicated by the certificate of inspection is BUGX10 but this looks too short to be a serial number . Is this normal for a genuine Mitutoyo DTI ?

I have only 1 Mitutoyo DTI and it is a model 513-403-10, its serial number is BMPM32. Looks to be a similar format. I bought from a reputable source so I believe mine is original.

I have two Mitutoyo DTIs, one the inch version of what you have, both have the same serial number format and were bought through authorized distributors, so should be authentic. My inch version of yours is identical to your pictures of the body.

@Ischgl99 Did you notice the finish on the dovetails? Mine are machined with a satin finish. This finish is far more coarse. None of my Mit DTIs have a sets crew in the dovetail, but this might be an earlier or different model. If it is a copy, it seems to be a pretty good one.

Mit DTIs have several plastic gears in teh gear train, so an internal inspection is also ambiguous, as the ofshore clones and Mit indicators have plastic gears in the gear train.

My 0.0001" DTI is a few years old and the finish looks exactly like what he shows in his. The dovetails do not look machined. I also have a 0.0005" one from probably 15 years ago and the finish is more of a silver color on that one compared to the gray of the newer one and the dovetails do appear to be machined. I have screws on all three of the dovetails on my older model, but the newer one doesn't have a screw on the rear dovertail. The back side of the face is completely different too, the older one is not flat like his and has recesses in it. The screwed cover is also on the other side. The most recent one was bought from Travers, so I would expect it to be genuine. The following pictures are of my two DTIs.2F83507B-F4A8-49EB-A12F-FD42FEAF27C1.jpeg63FFABC9-E8EA-46A6-A3E0-77F045B98D1E.jpeg16007A21-8EE7-41F4-BD69-C80037818D16.jpegDFE29D5F-1AAE-46C0-8D48-42F963316BA7.jpegE98949E6-0329-4D03-A4A6-A5352E4285AE.jpegCFFA9CA2-155C-4281-9F73-BE849ED2FC10.jpeg

@DavidR8 I tried reading the QR code, but it won't scan on my iPad or phone, so I suspect it might be for identification of an authentic product.

I just purchased two TDI's and both have the same style S/N as yours. Was able to register them with Mitutoyo so thinking all is good.

Clough42 just did a video on mitchutoyo calipers. Maybe that could help identify issues with your DTI

I've never seen or heard of a counterfeit Mitutoyo DTI yet. For Mitus they usually only counterfeit a certain model of digital calipers & a few DIs but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

Counterfeiters tend to only bother making fakes of specific models of things that have high sales volume. It doesn't make sense for them to make a fake of an item & mass produce that is not popular.
