Is this a backlash eliminator?

I'm currently tearing down my new to me horizontal/vertical mill and there is one cap head adjustment screw that I'm curious about. Can anyone tell me if it's a backlash eliminator?

Backlash eliminator, I'd say you've got a handle on it. Two adjustable nuts (holes with threads inside) to be moved to reduce play in the lead screw. I suspect others will chime in.

It would certainly seem to be the case; wish my mill had one!

Sure looks like it - I guess the worm in the second pic is on the end of the "caphead", and rotates the nut in the third pic to change the "phase" of the two nuts and take up backlash for climb milling / slackens off when conventional milling.
It's a lot more convenient than on mine, where it's under the RHS of the table.

That's good news. I wondered what the hell this gear was just sitting on the middle of nowhere.
