Is stainless sheet desirable?

My daily drive takes me past a fab shop that seems to do a lot of work with stainless steel sheet, probably for nearby meat processing industry. The scrap goes into a huge dumpster, picture 6' x 12' sheets with as many smaller (often round) shaped parts cut out of it as possible. I don't know but l suspect it is thinner gauge sheet (.25" or less ?). Is there any interest/use for such scrap in the hobby? (I have no idea if they would allow me to pick through it, thought I'd ask about interest first..)

Personally, I tend to hoard stainless, be very careful with sharp edges, and see if you can get some useful pieces for yourself.

Usefulness would probably be dependent on size of salvageable pieces. Thin gauge stuff is good for making drip pans etc to put under oil leaks etc. But pieces must be fairly large.

Well, if you have a need for stainless for what you do, then yes.

Most production shops recycle their scrap so make sure it's free for the taking before helping yourself.

Useful pieces are not going to be mostly holes unless you're trying to fabricate something lightweight that doesn't need the strength of the whole sheet. If it's useful for you than go ahead and ask....

Do you mean 0.025” instead of 0.25” as written? That would make a big difference in usability.

If you have a chance to get the SS at a good price grab it. You may have a project in few years.
I'm a hoarder I keep everything and it has served me well. Providing you have a place to store it

My BIL is in commercial refrigeration. He brought me a small truckload of stainless scrap/drops from a fab shop he works with. It's been a goldmine, going to ask for more.

I'm such a doofus. I agree with you by the way.
I had an opportunity to grab a mountain of stainless steel, angle, sheet, square tubing etc. FOR FREE.
My excuse, they were in large sheets-lengths. I had no place to store it.
It was from a local cannery that closed down.

If I ever need some, I'll contact you!!
