interference fit question

I am constructing some aluminum wheels for a 2 x 72 inch belt sander project. They will have R8 RS 1/2 X 1-1/8 X 5/16 bearings installed. Does anyone know the clearance required for the bored recesses to hold the bearings?

I'm confused by your question. The thread is called interference fit, but you asked about clearances.
The bearing manufacturers usually have all that info someplace.

Pat,

As soon as I get them in the mail I will post that number. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. The O.D. is purported to be 1.125 inches

Jeff

Ok, however, most industrial bearings these days have described dimensions in metric. We can still get the correct clearance, though.

Generaly speaking, .002 undersize is a shrink fit,.001 underize is a press fit, size for size is light press fit, .001 oversize is a sliding fit.
Remember this is only a guide line for bearing OD. This can also be used in reverse for the bearing ID
