Installing New Lathe Spindle

I'm installing a new 4" spindle in my mini lathe. Once it's installed, should I take a very light facing cut on the surface of the spindle to make sure it's square and flat?

Measure it first, if you can.

I have, and there are a couple "bumps" on it a couple thousands high. I think it's from the typical Chinese finishing work done on it. It seemed like the safest, and easiest, thing would be to just lightly face it once installed.

Yep go ahead, take just the minimum amount off.
