Insert for square thread

I’m looking for a source for lay down inserts to cut 10 tpi square (not acme) threads. Didn’t see anything on MSC’s site.

Might not be what you're looking for but I grind my own for old single shot rifle barrels.most have square threads.brownells carries couple different square cutters.good luck..

I’ll check out Brownell’s. I have the necessary information to grind my own, was just hoping for the easy way out. Thank you.

Brownell will be your best chance. I ground my own from HSS tool bit.

Even if you found the inserts, you would still need the tool holder for them.

Like Lordbeezer, I've ground them from HSS. Marlin Barrels are 14 square thd/in. When it wears, re-grind or grind for retaining rings, etc.

If you're really good grinding, the sides will be parallel, sharpen by grinding the end, that's where all the wear will be anyway.

Don’t forget that the tool has to have the correct angle to follow the thread pitch. Straight up and down will not cut properly. See Figure 3-79.
