I need to get my mill spindle reground due to some damage to the taper, but before I do it myself or send it out, I want to check and make sure the cylindrical section of the socket is running true and regrinding is not introducing a new problem. None of my indicators can reach in far enough, but it looks like the Mitutoyo pocket test indicators are long enough to reach. Before I buy one of those, is there anything else you have used that would work to check the runout of that section?

There are adapters for the back of dial indicators that have a long reach. They are just a simple arm that pivots

I was wondering about those, but the only one I could find didn't have a long enough lever to get to the cylindrical section. Do you know of any that have a lever in the 2.5-3" range?

Longest stem I have is 2" long . Some of the electronic indicators I had in the past had longer for checking barrels .

Thanks, the 2” Peacock might get in far enough, looks like the body might fit in the tapered section better than my Mitutoyos.

My test indicators have an M1.7 thread size, the extension sets appear to only be for drop indicators with the M2.5 thread.

I'll get rid of it cheap for someone . :encourage:

Maybe reword that? . . . rid of it cheap for someone.

Or you know something about @Ischgl99 you’re not sharing?
I'll edit that ! The grammer police are out in full force  I'll edit again . that's a 1 1/2" stem . Have to look for the long one .

My favorite line from She Wore a Yellow Ribbon occurs when the troops are getting briefed on the fact that women will be accompanying them to Sudrow's Wells to catch the stage: Sgt. Quincannon is instructing them to "Watch them words," when from the back of the troops (or offstage) comes,"Watch them grammar!" John Ford left it in.
