I've noticed an ad in the on-line classifieds for a B & S surface gauge with switchable magnetic base. It's been listed for some time, starting at $50. Now, it's listed at $40. I called him up and arranged to go see it. Since it was in good shape, although without a scriber, I didn't dicker.
As I was digging out the cash, he mentioned that he had found another box of HSS endmills. Now, a couple of months ago, I missed a lot of 40 endmills from the same seller for $100. At $2.50 each, that was a good deal. After a short pause, he says "Give me $50." Turned out to be 39 endmills from 1/16" to 7/8" in really good shape, some double-enders.
I commented on the 1 1/2" carbide cutter. He asked if I had a use for it. Of course I said yes. $5.00, he says. It takes 3/8" square inserts at a negative rake. Both are in perfect shape.
