I have a Habegger 102 lathe which is almost identical to a Schaublin. The problem is the tail stock uses the very odd 2-degree taper. I made a lousy taper for a small drill chuck and also one for a dead center. They are not adequate. I'm looking for a source for a 2-degree taper that won't break the bank. I did find some from a firm in Luxembourg, but the postage was 3 times the cost of the part.

Cheers,

I bought a set of MT reamers but the steel in the quill is just too hard to cut. I don't know if it is possible to use an internal grinder to produce a Morse taper, but I don't have the equipment or skills for that. I even thought of epoxy gluing in a ground rod aligned with the chuck, but common sense won over that idea.

The answer is "yes, but"... you already called it on the tools and skills

Actually, if it fits in your spindle, a carbide boring bar might do the trick! CBN might be needed it it's really hard. Burning chips are FUN!

Or a setup with a steady rest...

Or make a new quill or partially anneal the present one so that it can be machined, not too easy to turn that taper in the hard state.
