These bars came with a machine I bought. I'm wondering if they were intended to be parallel bars or if they're just tool steel blanks. They are parallel to within a thou.
Anyone heard of J.W. Albany? Maybe know what kinds of things they produced?

Could also be an owner's mark for someone with the initials "J.W." in Albany NY. That sort of marking was very common, wooden planes being a typical example.

I'll check for a maker "JW Albany" though, you never know.

They look to me like they were meant to be parallels.

They are obviously parallels made by the man whose name is stamped on them; likely he worked in a shop where there were remnants of tool steel, and he made his own parallels, I did the same back in the 1960s, I mad two pairs and still use them; I wish now that I had stamped my name on them as he did.

They look like perfect parallels. Use them for whatever purpose you seem fit.
I like finds like that and often wonder about the person who had them before me and what they made.
Cheers
Martin
