Since I got this SG, the cross-feed nut has been loose. Like .100 lash loose. I've been able to use it anyway, so I've been putting off dealing with it. Yesterday was the day. Thinking I would need it, I had then engine hoist at the ready. Once I removed the magnetic chuck, I discovered I could lift the table without straining anything. I disconnected the feed cable and took the table off. There is some wear on the ends of the flat way, the flaking was partially erased, but nothing serious. I was pleased to find that there is a window in the cross-feed carriage, which allows access to the nut. I tightened down the socket head cap screws that retain the nut, and the cross-feed screw started to bind. Back the screws off a little and it freed up. While I pondered that a bit, I spent some time figuring out how the lube system worked and fine tuned the the flow from the pump. The oil is pumped to the table ways, then flows from there to the cross-feed ways. Glad I checked it out, I wasn't getting enough oil to either set of ways.

Back to the cross-feed nut, I knew the proper thing to do was to remove the carriage and nut, shim under the nut and test. Screw that noise! I adjusted the cap screws so the nut didn't move and the screw turned freely, then put it all back together.

Having done it once, it wasn't all that traumatic. If I need to do it again I won't put it off so long.

How did you tune your oil flow? Bijur fittings?

The pump has two outlets from a common filter/plenum. One has a valve which controls the flow to the table, the other is uncontrolled and feeds the top of the elevation screw.

Any pictures?lol. I have a Harig 618 broken all the way down for restoration currently. Mine had a pinched oil line from the factory but it did not seem to harm the vertical ways for they are teflon coated. My x travel on the other hand does have a fair amount of wear and a small amount of pitting. Thinking of using JB as kind of a filler for those pits unless anyone has some suggestions

Sorry, I get so engrossed in the job that I forget to take pictures.

I'm not sure if there would be any benefit to filling the pits with JB weld.
