I've got an old 6" craftsman grinder from my Dad, and it has a carborundum wheel on it that's seen better days. I need to get a new wheel to grind lathe bits, but what would be the best material/grit for the job?
For offhand grinding I would recommend a white or pink aluminum oxide wheel of 60 or 80 grit intended for grinding tool steel. I'm assuming this is for HSS bits, if it's for carbide, you will need a green (silicon carbide) or diamond wheel.
