I think I will call this "design by trial and error". I am adding I-gauging DRO to my new to me Bridgeport Clone mill. I already have it on my PM 833 T mill and am using Touch DRO on it and love it. I started out using the 12" scale for ease of holding it. I only have 2 hands and they are 71 years old and eyes that seem to be getting dimmer as I get older. So, take it easy on me as I turn this project into something usable. I prefer to make the scale slide and anchor the reader to eliminate the constant flexing of the wires.

Looks like a solid installation so far. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Made a little more progress today between interruptions of neighbors coming by wanting to just BS sure takes up a lot of time when I get interrupted. The table is a 54" but I only chose a 24-inch scale. You can see by the Allen wrenches in the holes that I plan on being able to slide the scale to the left or right of center. I may wind up with a vice in the middle a dividing head to the right and a rotary to the left. Or at least the empty space left and right of the vice in case I want to do a quickie on the rotary table or dividing head. More to come as I get it done. Thanks for stopping by my post.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing if it works for you.
I was going to say that I mounted my scale on the non-op side so I wouldn't bump it and it wouldn't get in the way. I see by your setup that, with a 24" scale, and the ability to slide it, being on the front is better.

@ltlvt,

That's a clever solution!
It cost less, you don't need to get an oversized scale and chop it down, yet you can still use the DRO at any point on the table.
Nice!
