What do you use to remove scratches from plastic indicator crystals?

Is there some buffing compound to buff out plastic and make them readable again?
Do you hand buff or use a Dremel to buff them out?

If the scratches are deep, wet sand with 600 wet or dry, then 1200 if you have it. Simichrome polish,or most any silver polish will work well, especially if you really wear it out,so it becomes finer,as you polish. White automotive rubbing compound works fine, but don't use too much. You need to wear it out as you approach the clear finish you want. I polished many guitars with white auto compound.

I use a powered slow speed soft buffing wheel on lacquer guitar finishes, but on something as small as a crystal,I'd just do it by hand so the edges don't get sluffed off by the buffer.

When I had my 1947 Cessna 120, I learned about Meguiar's Mirror Glaze. It is a liquid polish for clear plastic. Does a beautiful job on aircraft and motorcycle windshields. I've used cheaper brands, but this one has the added advantage of eliminating static from the polishing. These days, I get it at automotive suppliers.

Meguair's polishes are good,if you have them handy. Most folks have silver polish around the house. I use Meguairs these days, but if you don't want to spend money, silver polish will do just fine.
