I have a Chinese slitting saw arbor the shank of which is slightly tapered, talking about a change in diameter by 7 tenths of a thou over a distance of about 1.2 inch. The diameter of the shank is about 0.4 inch. collet is ER16. Will that be a problem ?

I think the collet will angle a little and be quite ok , they have a lot of movement in them.

Tighten it up and see if it rocks about using a dial indicator maybe.

You might be able to buff the taper out on a lath with some emmery paper if it is an issue.
