How are these used? Spindle Mount dial indicator

Eons ago, I used one in a lamp post holder with a 196 Starrett. Don't know if that was proper, but it worked for what I needed.

As someone with a million of those: No idea! My guess is it is supposed to go in your toolpost (flat end), but I otherwise have no idea.

I’ve used them on my height gauge. Besides the one that came with Starrett last word TI, I got a couple with my Starrett master height gauge. Of course they take a special clamp to adapt to the height gauge but I was lucky to get an assortment with it of all kinds of adapters and snugs. It’s funny that’s what caught my eye as I was looking for snugs and the HG not only came with a ton of snugs and adapters, probes and clamps, but also a B&S Best test TI. You can never have too many adapters or snugs!

Count me in as another that has several in stock. I have 3 of the 196 indicator sets like Ed ke6bnl. Two are in the padded box like his and the other is in a wood box. I' haven't used any of the holders since I went from a lamp post style tool holder to a QCTP about 20 years ago. I've never tried any of them on the QCTP or on the height gauge.

My height gauges are B&S so I never even though they might interchange. When I get back to the shop I'll take a look to see if they can be used on either the QCTP or either of the height gauges.
