Guys over in Tool Junkies section I had ask about Edge Tech Tramming Head Indicator and everyone was saying make it don't buy it.So I have order some aluminum to do just that but have question about the indicators.Edge price is at 100.00 which its only 5" across so others saying to make one wider which I am but I need to find couple indicators for this project.HF has dial indicators that bout 20.00 each but are .001,will this be good enough for what I need or should I look for indicators that .0005?I don't want to spend a fortune on just indicators and I'm sure that Edge hasn't either.Sorry for being tight but my budget is so I need to try find pair indicators that will work for this.
Guys it looks like Shars has what I am looking for. Here's pic what I will try to make to fit my mill

I made this one for my mill using those HF indicators....since the idea is to repeat the setting that was the original measurement, the resolution doesn't matter as long as the indicators come back to zero every time. The commercial unit is 5 inches so you can also use it on a sine bar, but I made mine 10 inches. Not hard to make, works fine.

Mine uses HF indicators. They were available and work well enough. I think I even got them on sale. The cheap indicators seems to be as accurate as they claim, but have stiffer springs and such. That doesn't matter when being pressed against the mill table, the little spring isn't moving anything involved there.

I would like to make a longer one for X, but I would also keep the original for Y. Or make sure I include another way to do Y as my Bridgeport can move both ways. It's really nice on Y as the usual adjust by half the difference trick doesn't work there.

Thanks guys, what’s the diameter of those indicators?Maybe 2” would be large enough for me to see.Benmychee that’s how doing it now,as easy as it sounds and look it took me awhile I keep over shooting. So hoping this will help make life little easier and a good project
