What is the contraption on the quill below the control buttons for the power drawbar?

Down feed?
Yeah, I don't know. I don't have a mill like that and it looks like there are interlocks on the left side. One is connected to what looks like the down feed spring return housing.

Yep. That is the power down feed mechanism. You pull that lever out to engage and if it trips on the quill depth stop, the pdf disconnects. The Bridgeport company hired Rube Goldberg to design this system in the 1930's.
 
My Better Half started collecting some of the swarf off of the machines a couple years ago.
Arranged the mess into old-timey canning jars.
She even ordered some battery powered LEDs on-line to stick in the jars.
Makes for some neat decorations.
I should take some pictures. . . :grin:
