Hold down advice -Burke horizontal

I have a single slot table. I am trying to make some time nuts out of a piece of bar stock. I don't have any holding other than some toe dogs. I need to saw 1/4" off one side of the bar to get it to size. How can o hold this piece for a slitting saw?

Clamp it down on top of a piece of sacrificial packing.
