i'm looking for a new chuck for my 618 i think its a 1'' to 10 and was wondering where to order from i like amazon.but i'm not sure what to order maybe a five inch but for sure 4''thank you all for looking out for me .will a 5'' fit and i need to know what backing plate to get.once again thank you very much for the help.

I use a 3" and a 4" 3 jaw on my 618 Craftsman. A 5" chuck would be too large, IMO. The useful range of the jaw opening will be limited by the jaws hitting the bed. It also adds a lot more weight to a rather sma;ll spindle. The last time I installed a chuck, I had to make my own back plate. At the time, a 1" -10tpi threaded plate was not available. That was before internet days, however and things have changed. Shars sells a 4" plate for $30.
