I'm looking for a parts assembly drawing and maybe instructions for a Logan collet closer on my 12" 2557.
Mine has some bent screws and it has a wobble on the back end (outboard) while in use.

I got brave and started disassembly. I can't figure out how this is supposed to work. Am I missing a piece?

There's a 2500 series manual here:
https://www.hobby-machinist.com/res...2-inch-lathe-operation-parts-manual-pdf.3233/
pages 35-37 of that manual have some info on collet closers.

It may help, but I'll keep looking......

Brian

EDIT: I poked around on Vintage Machinery as well and did NOT find anything useful. Sorry.

Good Luck!
Thank you! The one diagram with the closer and parts shows me I have all the parts. I think I have figured out how it is supposed to work. IT seems mine was out of adjustment so to speak. I'm still not totally happy with it but I think I have it all. I'm still looking

A common mistake made by those unfamiliar is to tighten the collet on the stock with the drawtube, then try to flip the lever. The collet should not tighten on the stock until you flip the lever.

Brino,
The manual you linked did it for me! I got it figured out.
The collar that cams the three 'fingers' out, which pull the collet closed, had slipped. It wasn't in the right relationship with the cams. Once back in place it works like a charm.

If I understand the instructions correctly, I put round stock in the collet, push the lever to the left as if to lock it, then tighten the collar by hand until it gets tight. Then release the lock lever and tighten the collar one or 2 more notches and engage the lock on the collar. Then push the lock lever to lock stock in place.

That describes it pretty clearly.

Thanks for the help folks! Once again this place proves to be one of if not the most helpful site on the web.

Edited to add: turning some 17-4 now.
