Hi All,

I'm down in Tucson, AZ and am enrolled in what Richard has said may be his last scraping class on the Western side of the country. You are asked to bring your own project to apply your learned scraping techniques to. I went with a real simple Keith Rucker 9" cast iron straight edge casting. However, it is not in a ready-to-scrape state and I do not yet own a mill (hoping in the next year or so to pull the trigger). At a minimum I just need to deck the bottom to a flat surface, but it would be nice to clean up the 45 slope as well.

Does anyone here know reputable places in Tucson or Phoenix that could help me out with an easy job on short notice? Any members with a home shop in the area that will take a few bucks and a six pack of their favorite fancy beer?

I was going to check out the Hackerspace Xerocraft maker space here in downtown Tucson. I know they have a bridgeport, but I don't have a membership and I think it takes a few weeks to schedule their safety class before you can actually use the mill. I'm not sure I'll be able to line all that up before the April 5th class date.

Thanks a bunch for any help or suggestions you guys can provide!

Jon

If no Tucson connection works out, I have two suggestions.

#1 Post a thread in the "CAN YOU MAKE SOMETHING FOR ME? sub-forum asking what you did here. Members may miss this thread but be watching that forum. You could mail it anywhere (and back) in time.

#2 Contact the host of the class and see if he can help you out.

Good luck.

A mill is a good start, but for "scraping in" level of flatness, you ideally need someone with a surface grinder.
