Anyone know if the 618 headstock will fit on a MK2 (square head)bed? Frankenlathe!

I don't but it has been reported that the 618 Tailstock Base will fit the Mk-II bed. So the 618 headstock should fit as well. You may or may not have to drill two mounting screw holes near one end of the ways. And you may have to drill and tap the mounting holes for the left lead screw support bearing housing.

Hi
The ones I tried was the 618 and the 3950/101.21200.
The square head stock model would not interchange because length of the two was different as was the bolt hole pattern .
I have taken the headstock from a older bronze bushing mod and replaced it with a roller brg headstock with out any problems.
The carriage and tail stock fit like a glove and lined up on the money.
The banjo and lead screw bearing was different also and would not interchange
Hope this helps

Tom,

I assume that your next to last sentence and the one before it refer to your attempt to put a 618 headstock on a 3950? AFAIK, the only parts differences between a 618 or 101.21400 and a 101.07301 are those associated with the spindle. Plus the 101.07301 never got the later B-version countershaft but the earlier version would still work.

Sorry for my ramblings earlier. Wife says I'm getting senile :(

I attempted to put a square head stock (3950, 101100 atlas 1012100 craftsman ) on a older 618 /101 xxx. bed.
I can't remember which headstock is longer but they are different, also The mounting bolt hole spacing is not the same.
It's been a few years so the details are fuzzy, but they would not interchange.

Yes you are correct on the older lathes interchangeability.

OK. I had it backwards. Thanks.
