Tag sale this morning produced this Speed Chuck with the 1J Collets. I always ask if there are machines for sale. Chuck, Collets and 200 undrilled file handles $60.00.

You must live in some sort of used tool paradise. I never see stuff like that around here... and if I do, it's 10x that price. Good find.
 
There are many machinists here that are in their 80s and some over 90. Bristol, Ct. was an Industrial giant in its hay day. Now that hay day is all but over and tools and such pop up all the time. It's that time of year again. :lmao:

It took a little finesse and 1/8 off the OD of the Bakelite but the chuck is good to go. I need it to finish a jig for a gent here in Ct. I just looked at the price one of these goes for on the Bay. :pondering:

What a great score!!!! So do you use a drawbar to pull the collets into place. Like on a mill? Or does the bakelite ring somehow set the Collet and hold it in place?

Google Speed Chuck. The collet is tightened by planetary gears. The sun gear is internally threaded to fit the collet Bob.
