Hardinge HLV-H toolroom lathe - $5,000 (santa clara, CA)

I'm curious as to why the "best"(HLV) precision lathe has no bed length, and does it only use collets?

AFAIK, they were only available in one bed length giving about 18" between centers
They have a propietary 4° tapered spindle. They will accept a chuck and face plates with the right adapter. IIRC, the internal taper is a direct fit for 5C collets. It's a pretty slick setup for a small lathe.

This is the spindle nose cover for use when doing collet work.
