Hi,
I need a large base platen press, but can't find one in a size, or more importantly in a price range that works for me. One option that's affordable is to use a 6 ton Harbor Freight bearing press and some sheet steel plates. The downside is the bulk, and it's overkill for the die stamping and embossing I will be doing. I think I only need somewhere in the 3300-4480 lbs.
I saw these hand presses and the construction looks simple enough that it could be scaled up. (I'd like an 18"x24" press bed.) Does someone smarter than me have suggestions on how to do it using Cam Lobes and needle bearings? TIA for the help.
