Grinding HSS tooling - what wheel?

Hey all,

So I chipped some carbide indexable inserts up, had a guy @ work grind a general purpose RH cutting tool. Its in good shape still but I want to sharpen it. What wheel do I want for my grinder? I have a 1/2" shaft and I know the better wheels come with larger shaft holes - that's ok, I'll turn a spacer!

Any direct links to order directly online would be greatly appreciated. McMaster, etc.!

Thanks!

I use 30 grit for fast removal and 60 grit to clean up.

I use a 2"x 1" medium grit diamond hone to keep all my HSS tools sharp, after initially forming the blanks on a wheel. Unless you need to drastically change the angles the diamond hone is you need to maintain the sharpness. The tools can be sharpened while they are still in the holder on the lathe. It takes about five minutes to maintain the edge and then you are back to cutting.
