Grinding flycutter bit

I ground a HSS , .250 tool bit for my fly cutter.

Material is 1018 CRS.

Speed is 710.

When I try to use it the cutter the cutting edge breaks down as soon as it touches the metal.

I ground it cutter to the video below.

Any ideas what I did wrong?

Thanks,
Dale

Might help to show us your tool, Dale, and maybe give us your tool angles.

In addition, the cutting speed sounds high for a HSS tool. Cutting speed for 1018 is around 100 sfm so calculating your rpm for say a 2.5"diameter cut, this would give us an rpm value of 153rpm.

Let's try to get the tool ground well first.

Mikey is correct on the RPMs. Niagara, a company manufacturing milling cutters offers a cutting speed calculator made like a slide rule (for free), I posted this in the past, perhaps someone can find the post and you could get one and put you ahead in the game, it would tell you all about cutting speeds and feeds for any machine tool.

I reground the cutter.
I gave it a little more clearance and it works great.

Don't know what the problem was but now it cuts fine.

Thanks for the replies.
