Hello all,

I am looking to purchase one of my first pieces of equipment, a grinder. I understand that it should be a simple purchase, but I figured I would drop by and see if there is any practical advise I can get from anyone here. I am currently "gearing up" so to speak for getting started with my woodworking hobby, which will require a lot of sharpening. That said, I was looking to purchase a grinder/belt sander combo, because I figured I would get the most use out of such a machine. Because I know I'll be needing to use this a lot for metal-working related tasks, I figured I'd ask if there's anything I should consider? Also, because I'm studying up on sharpening, (for woodworking mind you), I was wondering if there was any advise about sharpening for machine work that I could solicit? Do you guys give sharpening as much consideration as it seems woodworker usually do, it seems like more information exists on sharpening for woodworkers than for machinists. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I have a Accu-Finish I that I bought 20 years ago to sharpen Carbide scraper blades. They also make grinders for the wood working industry. It sounds expensive, but if you check around you can find MSC has sales on hem from time to time. In my 30 years I think I have replaced the 600 grit wheel 3 times and I use my grinder all the time.
