Don't have the ducats for an Albrecht or other top-tier keyless chucks but I know I need a chuck for my Heavy 10. I've always had keyed chucks but after hearing so many raves about the keyless I figure it's time to get one. Are there any good 3/8" keyless chucks that won't cost an arm...I can give a leg but not an arm and a leg. :p

GS Tooling (subsidiary of Sowa) makes an excellent keyless chuck for about 1/4 to 1/3 the price of an Albrecht. I own one and it works as good an an Albrecht too. I got mine at Blue Point Tool (a local industrial machinist's supply house) in Bohemia, NY but I've seen them on eBay too. I can't recommend these GS chucks enough...

You can get them online here: http://www.penntoolco.com/catalog/products/products.cfm?categoryID=7370 I have the 1/2" Super Precision with a JT6 taper. This site has it cheaper than what I paid by about 15%.

I don't know about the chuck quality but a lot of the cordless drills are showing up at yard sales and flea markets. The batteries fail and they cost more that a new drill to replace. You can pick the drills up cheap. Those chucks usually screw onto a shaft for mounting. The motors make handy project material also. I saw a recent post where someone made a power feed from one.

What type of capacity and arbor did you have in mind?

I'd like 0-3/8" since that's most of what I have in bits. Arbors?....... I don't know. I never had to get one. :p Is one (2JT, 33JT, etc.) better than the other?

Sweet! Penn Tool is only 30mins away from me. :) Those look nice and not too spendy. I'll look into them. Thanks John.

I didn't think of that Benny. That's an idea. I've got a Bosch 18v that I could utilize. I don't know how true it still runs but I'll look into it. That might work for now. Thanks.

Last keyless I bought from Litle Machine Shop. Had it now for about 6 months with lots of use in that time. So far its been a good one and runs true.

Well guys I don't know if he'll actually ship it being what I won it for but we'll see... I won a Rohm keyless 1/32-1/2 Supra with 5/8-16 arbor thread for $15. It's supposedly NOS and doesn't look used at all. I've done some favors for friends last week. Maybe what goes around really does come around. We shall see.
