Brand new here and am going to an auction tomorrow (Saturday) to look at a lathe and I see they have added a photo of a milling machine I have never seen before. (not that thats hard). Does it have any value other than scrap? I could drag it home and my wife would be very pleased with me i suspect. Thanks Jay

Sorry about the link. you will need to find the pic amongst several on the page

Not scrap: junk. Junk has good parts that you can use. Buy it. You can always sell it for scrap after you salvage all the good stuff.

Ooo man I envy you! Good luck tomarrow all that older equipment. What ever it is it should be solid, much heavier castings then new from the photos it looks like he took care of most of his stuff. We are getting snow tomarrow.

Quite the table saw and planer. Probably babbit bearings in the planer, hard to say about the table saw - it might be the jewel of the collection. The metal lathe might be OK, but hard to say about the incomplete milling machine. I have seen machines like those go for less than scrap value. Too big and heavy for most amateurs and too old for business, so they orphans. I bought a big German made wood cutting bandsaw (not all that old) for $500. a few years ago. The company had paid over 4K for it and it started out there and when it got down to $500 with no bid I jumped in and happily was the only bidder. Good luck tomorrow - if you have a way to move the stuff.

(1) Welcome!

(2) I'd be willing to bet that the "milling machine" is some kind of grain mill. Might be burr-type cutters inside the cover with the teardrop-shaped openings. If you see a bunch of grain in, on or around it, that'll be a definite tip-off.

(3) Best of luck at the auction!

Thanks for the replies, shamefully I left early, for 2 reasons.

1 There were a lot of people there and several I know would outbid me on stuff or at least run me up to the point of not being a deal anymore and
2 It was snowing and I had to go to work.

The mill was a Horizontal "Becker"? and was in a bad state of parts missing
The Lathe was hard to walk away from. It was about 12 feet long total length, solid as get out, and very complete and needing detail work. I had no idea where I would put something so large. It was a beautiful piece of machinery though.

Even though I am not a wood guy the old Dewalt saw was a very curious item. It was huge and interesting. I may have been able to use it for cutting up deer from the size of it. Again a beautiful thing indeed. Is it wrong to call a rusting hunk of metal beautiful? I have always enjoyed old items, they have character!

I will try not to let everyone down again. Hopefully when it comes along again I will be able to stay. The snow has so far kept me from getting my new (to me) Mill from St Cloud as well as playing with me at this auction.

Becker Mill parts are hard to find. I have a Becker vertical mill that is missing a tray off the table.
