I am changing the bels on my Weiler matador lathe, the spindle required a lot more force to remove than the manufacturer suggested in the manual and it is proving difficult to reassemble. The gears in question are the first and last gears on the spindle shaft. the gears and shaft are keyed and have a very good finish without any obvious scratches or high spots. I do not see how a keyed gear could be aligned blindly if the gear can not spin at all. I am wondering if I should put the gears in the oven and warm them up. The shaft is about 2.5 inches at the chuck end and 2 inches at the other end.
