I scored several boxes of machinest tooling this weekend! Most of it I could recognize, (edge fined, micrometers, 1-2-3 blocks, laps, ....) but 3 things have me stumped.

The first is some kind of mill block, some holes are threaded and all/part way through, they are identical, but not sidetracked?

The second is some type of V-block, but it has the threaded are on the right, and all the polka-dots appear to be drilled and press fit in?

The last only some shown, is a collection of gauges or hones?

Anyone have an idea post it.

Thanks (sorry if the pics are up-side-down) simage.jpg

You need to practice taking and posting pictures....:)

The thing with the "polka dots" is a magnetic transfer block-it is designed to be used on a magnetic chuck-the :polka dots" are steel or other magnetic material, and the rest of it is aluminum or other non-magnetic metal. This allows the magnetic flux to passs through the block to whatever is set on top of it.

I'm going to say on the left is a shop built special fixture of some kind. On the right, those look like die punches. Could be used as punches or to build other tools out of. They probably are pretty hard, and may be made from HSS. awander nailed it on the polka-dot thing.

It sounds like you made a great score at that garage sale. Congratulations!:encourage:

I just wanted to add that a magnetic chuck is typically used on a surface grinder.
However I've also seen them on milling machines and even one magnetic lathe chuck.

If a magnetic chuck is in your boxes then you probably did very well......
