I just bought this tool cutter grinder from a guy, looks like there is some potential for various sharpening jobs. Does anyone know about these? 808f2aed18183aebefbcf5f0ff98a92c.jpg

It dosent look like any foley machine I've ever seen. But it does look like it should do the job on lots of different cutters. Clean her up and give it some lube and get grinding . Good luck with it.

Hi jjtgrinder,

Nice find. That's looks very useful!
Sorry I cannot offer any experience or advise, but would really like to see more pictures as you progress.

Nice! Can't help with the ID either. I'd have bought it too. Looks like a nice tool grinder but I agree, I've never seen a Foley that looked like that.

I "moved" this post to the Forum thread "Tool Junkies - Tools & Tooling". See my new post there.

I looked around a bit....

Not much at Vintage Machinery: http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgIndex/detail.aspx?id=318&tab=3

This one: http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=8287027
is marked as a model 380, but called a "valve grinder"

and a couple mentions and photos:

A similar machine (model 374) in a brochure: http://foleyfiler.blogspot.ca/2012/04/foley-belsaw-saw-grinder-model-310.html
and click on "Foley Sharpening Equipment (1974 catalog)"
see page 9 of the pdf file.

Does yours use Hardinge 4C collets?

Yes, It does use the Hardinge 4c collets. I am going to look for some of them to hold various shank sizes.
The difference I see between the 374 and 380 is the motor size. My 380 has a full size 1/2 Hp motor. The
manual I downloaded from a site for the 374 looks like the motor is smaller. Don't know for sure. If a HSM
wanted a tool and cutter grinder for not too much money, they should consider one of these if they see one.
It has very nice linear bearings / roller bearings that the table "slides" on. I will report back on how well it works
when I get it working.

Out of interest, could you put the model 375 manual up here?
Thanks
-brino

BRINO, Yes I will! It is under the "Military Manuals / U S Army Manuals" category.

Thanks.

So if the US Army used it there should be many of them around.....or at least should have been.
I had not seen this type of machine before your posts.
Now I have to keep my eyes open for one!

Thanks Again!
