Going to install coolant system on my PM940 mill. Flood coolant works great, but for half the price I can install air/coolant system. Anyone have any experience with the Air/coolant systems? Are the the way of the future or better off sticking to flood coolant system?

I use a Fogbuster system. I am very happy with it but then 99% of all of my work is in Aluminum.

Similar to others, I ended up building my own no fog type system which works very well. One of the key factors to decreasing the misting is to also pressurize the the coolant circuit so the you do not need to rely on the bernoulli effect to suck up the fluid which requires a high pressure air stream. Putting an air regulator on both the air and fluid line you can adjust the pressure and volume of each and the coolant line is not affected by height. In addition to the pressure regulators, I use needle valves and solenoids to adjust both volume and on/off of each circuit. The solenoids also decrease the flow/dribble after the coolant line is shut down. I can use any combination of air/coolant and also only is active when the spindle is on.

Thanks for the quick response Karl. You have given me lots to think off. Appreciate the effort.

I've got one of these Noga misters. I like it a lot.

I use it with Kool Mist. Sometimes, I just use air to clear the chips with a little cooling effect.

Thanks Ted. The Nova mister was the one I was looking at.

I use the sprayers on the mill and lathe with Kool Mist, seems to work fine and a gallon of fluid lasts a long time.
Further, the cheap $10 or $15 sprayers work fine, but get the kind with separate air and fluid needle valves.

I have used both dark screw cutting oil and Mobilmet 766 (oil-type CF). I get a lot of smoke! I work in my garage & all of the other 7 people in my house have told me to rein it in!
