California's annual fire season is in full force giving some interesting photos.

I can remember watching the fires move rapidly across the hills, in the '60s, while I was living in CA. Scarry.
 
Do you think it would have fared better if it was a metal building?
Not likely. Structural steel starts losing strength @ 600°F. Aluminum alloys melt at about 1250°F See the first photo in this series.
Living in these areas has always been a gamble. How much of a gamble can be seen by what insurance costs are.

What insurance? My buddy who lives in North Fork CA his insurance co is leaving the state and nobody can afford the insurance co’s that are staying. His neighbor paid off his place and they immediately cancelled his insurance and he’s not found replacement. Same with Florida.
 
Very sad seeing all the loss in the fires.

The insurance companies are dropping people here in Washington also.
