My lathe has been running well, last time I used it was 2 weeks ago. Yesterday is came up with a 400 servo alarm. Fuses seem good.

Not sure where to go from here?

With the power off , check to see if your slide is binding or stuck....

It seems to move freely.

I checked for voltage at the drive, it was 23.7v.

Alloy . The Makino would sometimes blow a certain fuse while rapiding to a position close to the turret drill position . X "0" . It did this while boring in M3 CCW spindle rotation and CSS . It would over rev the spindle speed limit I would program and blow that one fuse . It was a large silver fuse filled with sand I believe and they were $75 a pop back then . This didn't happen often because 99% of the time I was boring in M4 . Could this be what happened ?

This was on startup. Ran great a couple of weeks ago. Checked the fuses I could find. Have 119v in to the drives, dc volts are 23.7

I finally got someone up here to look at my lathe. He found diagnostic errors on both x and z, so best guess is it's the servo drive. Pretty low probability that 2 servos motors went bad at the same time. So off to be repaired for $1300. They will check it and if nothing is wrong with they will send it back.

The exchange cost for one was $3100. There is a person on ebay that has them for $900, but I'm going with a company that the repair guys knows.

So maybe in 3 weeks I'll get the drive back.

You could always do what I did and rip out everything that says Fanuc on it and replace it with something more modern.

If I had your knowledge then that may be an option.

If I tried that I'd end up with a 10,000lb paperweight.

One of our Fanuc Wire EDMs decided to work once and awhile. Repair guy came in and was getting frustrated. BFH was moving up to sledgehammer size. Turns out a 1 amp fuse was making and breaking continuity randomly! When I tested the fuses before making the call, it was good but obviously it was not. What a ride!

These drives are available used for about 400-600 depending on part number.
Virtually any thing Fanuc is available used for a fraction of the new price.
The same supplier has parts for many brands and models. Siemens, Mitsubishi, AB and a few I am forgetting.
