Hello all, Just got back from delivering my Medina end grinder to a friend of mine that’s a tool and die maker in Georgia. Hated to get rid of it but it went to a good home and I doubled my money on it. Question I have is in regards to a 40” digital mitutoyo height gage I have. My friend got a look at it and wanted to buy it from me but I have no clue what to ask for it. I practically stole it at $100 dollars when I bought several machines from a guy. Just wanted to get some insight and some suggestions on pricing it. Thanks in advance

Need a pretty large surface plate to use it , so not much use to hobbyists . Check out what they go for on the Bay and go from there would be my suggestion. :)

I sold one that size years back on eBay for either $475 or $525. The hard part about selling this on eBay is assuring potential buyers you have a clue how to ship something like this.

Probably does not apply with your friend, just saying.

Guess I’m weird, but I sell to my friends what I pay for it. And if I got it free I pay it forward. Now strangers, that’s market price.

Like all the suggestions. The only thing with selling it for what I paid was I was hoping to sell for enough to be able to purchase a smaller one. I’m sure he would understand. I may just let him have it. He at least would put it to good use

It looks like prices are all over the map literally A few years ago I purchased a B&S 24” vernier height gauge, and more recently a 12” Cadillac height gauge

I got the Cadillac for $25.00 and the B&S for $50.00 These weren’t negotiated prices but rather dealer asking prices I see the exact same ones listed on eBay today with a $2,000.00 asking price on the B&S and $399.00 on the Cadillac

Prices are all over the place with these things . I have one down the basement I'm dragging up to CF in 2 months . I sold the large surface plate and this takes up space .

That is how I’d approach the whole thing. I started out looking for an assortment of snugs for my mishmash of indicators and at the same time looking for a height gauge for my surface plate. The perfect deal for me was this huge assortment of snugs and attachments with a Starrett 14” #254 master bar vernier gauge. The whole thing for $130 buy it now on eBay. Verniers are the ticket IMHO because there is nothing to need calibration or mess up. And most of the herd roaming eBay doesn’t know how to read them so you can get them for a song. Look up price for a new 12” Starrett 254, crazy. It even came with B&S .0005 test indicator with current calibration.
