Face Mill or Fly Cutter?

I am going to need to mill off some welds on a tractor drawbar that was worn out and built up. I plant on grinding it close, then put it on the mill. I don’t have a face mill or fly cutter yet. Which tool would be best for this operation? I will probably end up with both someday, but will start with this.

Depends on what machine you have, low ridgidity and power machines may not do well with face mills.

I have a PM 835, it’s 3hp. It is no Bridgeport, but so far running end Mills, boring and drilling, it has been good.

You should be able to use a face mill.
