Now that I am starting to do little more on the lathe, my big head live center is getting in the way.I need one that has the extend point but which one?Ebay is full and they all look the same to this untrained eye.Guys what do I need to look for that's not over the top but for the average wanna be making something and not for the scrap pile?I also would like to know what live center to kinda dream about also and ones to not waste money on.

Wish you started this topic last week, I ordered the best price long pointed live center I could find. Will see how it goes.

I bought this one a month or so ago. Checking run-out with a .0005 indicator showed hardly any movement. Also, I've always had good luck with Skoda live centers.

I have that same one from zlivecenter as well as one of their bull nose centers. I'm very happy with them.

My other 2 live centers are the newest style HD Skodas. Sold my old black MT3 Skoda & gave my old black MT2 Skoda to my brother. I only upgraded cause I got them at a discount. Purchased through MSC, dropped shipped from Sowa. They were cheaper than what I paid for the extended nose center from zlive.

I took a gamble on a Shars long nose because it was about half what a Skoda is around my world. So far I am quite impressed with it. I cant measure any runout on a 10ths indicator. Bearings are very smooth. MT shank fits perfectly evidenced by bluing. Whether it lasts 25 years (coinciding with if I'll be around machining 25 years from now) remains to be determined LOL.
