I got a opportunity several years ago to work with our "machinist" on a couple of quick projects and that started my interest in machining. He showed me the basics on the mill and lathe so I went and purchased my own used ones and have been having a blast learning. Since then he has left and a new guy has started, I got to work with him yesterday. I needed to make a quick press tool for bearings out of round aluminum and he unlocked the machines for me and said have fun. He stopped me when I was adjusting the carriage speed on the lathe by selecting the thread per inch and asked me why I would do that. I explained that was how I was shown to do it, was that not the correct way? He patiently explained that I had been doing it wrong all along and showed me the correct way. I dowloaded the manual for my lathe at lunch and presto! there it was in writing. Guess it would help if I read the manual :lmao: Anyway, I came home and tried it on my machine and was impressed. Maybe now I can get rid of those crappy finishes on my material  At least I can say I learned something today )
