ER Collets

I am thinking of purchasing a set of collets. Other than cost, is there any reason to purchase ER 32 over ER 40? It looks like the 40 covers a wider range of sizes with no downside (other than cost). The second question is if they cover a continuous size range, why would you buy Imperial over Metric (or vice versa)? For example, http://www.ctctools.biz/servlet/the-49/FULL-ER40-COLLET-SET/Detail is $14 cheaper than http://www.ctctools.biz/servlet/the-300/FULL-ER40-COLLET-SET/Detail even though they cover the same size range.

the difference is in the wider (higher up) size range of the ER40 which equates to a higher price range. if you don't work in anything larger than 3/4 and need to save a buck go for the ER32. but if you know you'll be working in the 3/4 - 1" range, go for the ER40 at the slightly higher cost (not extreme though).

while the ER collets cover a range of sizes (each collet) they are bored differently for imperial/metric sets, and theoretically the closer you are to the stock size you need to hold with the collet bore, the better the grip will be. I do notice that my imperial set holds imperial stock more firmly than metric (I use 7mm shanks from time to time). although it does hold both the 7mm needs to be much tighter.
