I would like to have a ER 40 Chuck made that fits the spindle 2-1/4x8tpi of my South Bend Heavy 10 lathe.
Thanks
Derrick

These collet blocks might be worth looking at if you can't find an ER-40 chuck that fits your spindle. These are hex and square ER-40 holders that you could chuck in 3 or 4 jaw chuck. I am considering getting a set for those times that I don't want to switch chucks for a single small part or I need to hold round stock in my mill. They are both through hole so can pass stock through.

You might consider, if the spindle of the lathe has a internal taper like a morse #? using a morse taper holder and making a draw bar to hold it in place, that passed through the spindle.

The two problems with MT collets are that you can't pass long stock through them and that they only come in 1/16" increments, which only have a clamping range of about +/- 0.015". However. of you only need to hold cutters, they are the cheapest option to a full set.

I bought one of these a long time ago to make one:

Tools 4 cheap used to carry them back then. I think they are called collet plates.

They are easy to make. Just purchase the nuts on eBay and your good to go.
I've made 2 so far. One for the Lathe and one to hold in the vise on the Mill.
