I have an Enco 93618 surface grinder that is badly out of tram (correct term?) in the Z axis (In and out, I'm still sketchy on terminology) to the tune of 10 thousands over .2 inches. In the long axis the table measures high by about 5 tenths at each end so I'm assuming this is not a wear problem. I can also get about 5 thousands movement total by pushing up and down on the spindle. The Z axis error seems way too much to even think of grinding out and the up and down movement of the spindle seems like something that could be adjusted out, but I have no idea how. The column is bolted to the base so I could add shims to take out as much error as possible but being a complete noob when it comes to surface grinding I need expert help.
Is there a gib adjustment on the vertical slide?
What could cause the saddle to be so tilted front to back?
Does anyone know of a manual for a 93618 Enco?
Sorry for the rambling post but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed at the moment.
TIA
